Principal's Message 2016-2017

It is a joy to welcome you back to school for the academic year 2016-2017 as we look forward to an exciting term. I hope you have had an enjoyable summer and ready for all the challenges ahead of us. A special welcome to our new members of staff and all the new students and their parents. I look forward to working with you. A great deal of work took place over the summer in our efforts to get the new wing ready. The Marian Academy is always looking for ways of improving our education programme. On 14 September 2015, we established a Sixth Form offering the Associate Degree in the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CXC). This move necessitated the demolition of our first wooden structure in order to construct a two-floor cement structure which will accommodate the Sixth Form classrooms, library, staffroom, meeting room, chapel, offices for the counsellor and maintenance personnel and much more. This building offers the state of the art classrooms and other facilities, with Wi-Fi service.

Our examination results showed that once again Marian Academy excelled in our academics. Again we did extremely well at the Grade 6 National Examination, the CSEC and CAPE. Eight students gained places in the top one per cent at the Grade Six National Examination. At the CSEC we claim the third place nationally, as we stood at 94.05 %, with the two other schools scoring a point or two ahead of us. Our top student Rebecca Low did us proud with 13 subjects. In our first year of entering the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Exams (CAPE), we registered a shade above 84%, with acceptable Grades. Congratulations to Bryan Kissoon, our top student at CAPE with 8 subjects, and who was also top student at the CSEC with 13 subjects the previous year. We also had another successful summer of sports was published in our news papers. Special congratulations to the National Squash Team which had several students from Marian Academy and the Badminton Team. There are many other successes which I may not even know about.

Our Term Calendar will provide the needed information for most of our events and dates you need to be aware of. So please ensure that you keep your copy where you can be reminded.

We look forward to the year ahead as we continue to walk in the light of wisdom.
